From typeface to interface.
Background
I’m Valentin Dewez, a product and graphic designer based in Paris. I design brands and digital products for startups, studios and public institutions, and I teach the craft to students and teams.
I started with visual communication at vocational school, then graphic design, before a detour through film and video. At ésam Caen and then ESAD Amiens, I designed typefaces and explored digital publishing, graduating with an MFA in graphic and digital design in 2022.
Since then I have been designing products: gaming platforms for Ultra, a recruitment app for the French Army, game interfaces for Big Bad Wolf, all at Figs Lab. Alongside that, I co-founded Rework and designed its brand, website and tools.
That path explains how I work: start from content and reading, build systems rather than isolated screens, and check with the people who will use the product.

Start from reading
Before form, what people need to understand and in which order. Hierarchy does half the work.

Build systems
A brand or product holds up through its rules, not its screens. I deliver the rules with the screens.

Check in the field
A test with five users beats a long meeting. I show early and fix fast.
